In a column today in the Houston Chronicle, two researches argue that the recent federal court ruling halting stem cell research with federal funding will harm Texas research institutions.
The researchers, one from the Baylor College of Medicine and the other from M.D. Anderson, say, “It is notable that the current ruling also overturns the prior George W. Bush-era guidelines, which had allowed human embryonic stem cell research to proceed, albeit in a more limited fashion. Halting this work puts a great deal of past research at risk, inhibiting the continued development of these therapies and obstructing new and effective treatments for many intractable human disorders.”
